SCCA supports expanded Mt. Elphinstone park |
The SCCA has written a letter to the Minister of the Environment in support of an expanded park on Mount Elphinstone.
Local residents are urging the government to expand three very small protected parcels into a 1500 hectare Mount Elphinstone Provincial Park. BC Timber Sales is presently planning to log cutblock #A87124 within the proposal area.
Elphinstone Logging Focus (ELF) organized a public meeting on February 21 to discuss the proposed park. |

SCCA responds to Aggregate Project review |
BURNCO Rock Products Ltd. is proposing an aggregate extraction project at McNab Creek in Howe Sound (approx. 10 km east of Port Mellon). This gravel extraction project would have outputs ranging from 400,000 tonnes per year to as high as 4 million Tonnes per year for special project demands.
The Future of Howe Sound Society opposes this development.
The SCCA has responded to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency's request for public input into the requirements of the environmental assessment. (Click on Read More for our response.)

Introducing the Habitat Area Nomination Project (HANP) |
As most members are aware, the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association (SCCA) has a long history of working successfully to protect old growth forests, species at-risk, wildlife habitat and various ecosystem services within the 2.5 million hectare area of the greater Sunshine Coast region. With our current effort, the Habitat Area Nomination Project, the SCCA is moving on formal nominations of specific areas for either Wildlife Habitat Area (WHA) or Fisheries Sensitive Watershed (FSW) designation. We are also designing an educational program about what biodiversity is and what is needed to protect this regions biodiversity.
