Our Goals & Objectives
The SCCA is a charitable non-profit society dedicated to conserving and restoring biodiversity in the Sunshine Coast Natural Resource District.
We develop and lead transformative conservation campaigns to protect watersheds, ecosystems, and species through research, education, alliance building, and advocacy in the territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, shíshálh, Tla'amin, Klahoose and Homalco First Nations.

Trouble in the Headwaters – Film Screening
Join us on Wednesday, September 17th, at Roberts Creek Hall for a screening of Trouble in the Headwaters, a powerful documentary exposing the link between clear-cut logging and catastrophic flooding.
Filmmaker Daniel J. Pierce, UBC professor Dr. Younes Alila, and SCCA’s Suzanne Senger will lead a panel discussion on local watershed threats.

Stop the Logging - Protect Drinking Water
BC Timber Sales is auctioning cutblock TA0159 on Mount Elphinstone, located in the recharge zones of Aquifers 560 and 552, which supply drinking water for Gibsons and West Howe Sound.
Logging in this sensitive area threatens slope stability, aquifer recharge, water quality, and fish habitat.
Despite ongoing advocacy for a Water Sustainability Plan, BCTS is proceeding with logging plans. The SCCA is urging an immediate deferral of TA0159 and collaboration with the community to develop a Water Sustainability Plan.

The People's Author
Andrew Scott dedicated his life to documenting the Sunshine Coast's people, places, and natural history.
His books and articles, including co-authoring *The People’s Water* with Dan Bouman, highlighted the community's fight to protect drinking water in the Chapman Creek watershed.
His writing emphasized the urgency of ecological preservation and the deep connection between nature and humanity, celebrating the resilience of local advocates committed to sustaining the environment.

Private Land Protection
Protecting Biodiversity on the Sunshine Coast
A conservation covenant is a voluntary legal agreement between a private property landowner and a conservation organization, ensuring the protection of ecological values on the land. These agreements are attached to the property title and remain with the land in perpetuity.
The SCCA, as a registered Land Trust, works to establish and maintain conservation covenants to protect ecologically valuable lands throughout the region.
